REDMOND, Ore., April 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Eating Disorder Hope is pleased to announce its Spring 2017 Seal of Excellence recipients. These parties contribute meaningfully to the eating disorder community while embodying Eating Disorder Hope's message of hope and healing.
The Seal of Excellence initiative was first launched in October 2016 as a way to formally recognize key voices in the eating disorder community for their invaluable work. Each quarter, Eating Disorder Hope proudly honors a Non-Profit Organization, Eating Disorder Professional, and Community Member who are all making a positive impact in the lives of those touched by eating disorders.
This quarter, Eating Disorder Hope recognizes Beat, the U.K.'s eating disorder charity, for its support services for eating disorder sufferers, efforts to increase awareness, and trainings for professionals in the field. Founded with the belief that eating disorders can be overcome, Beat works to destigmatize eating disorders and support those actively struggling through helplines, message boards, peer support groups, and more.
Walter Kaye, M.D., is an internationally recognized leader in the eating disorder field for his research and innovative treatment programs. As Director of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Eating Disorder Treatment and Research Program, Dr. Kaye addresses the many underlying causes of eating disorders, with an emphasis on family counseling as part of the recovery process. He is currently working on research to identify specific genes that contribute to the development of eating disorders.
Brian Cuban is an author, speaker, and advocate who inspires others through his own recovery journey. He recently celebrated his tenth year of sobriety and is an expert on eating disorders, body dysmorphic disorder, and co-occurring substance use disorders. By sharing his story, Brian is working to destigmatize these issues, particularly eating disorders in men. His new book The Addicted Lawyer: Tales of the Bar, Booze, Blow, and Redemption is now available for pre-order.
Nominations are now being accepted for Summer 2017 recipients, to be announced July 24, 2017. Anyone interested in nominating a deserving Non-Profit Organization, Eating Disorder Professional, or Community Member can visit the Seal of Excellence page for details.
