"New England is special to me for a lot of reasons – including its strong sense of community. It's not just where I spent most of my career, it's where I raised my children," says David Ortiz. "Giving back to the community is part of everything I do, and it's important that I work with companies like Eastern Bank who have that same passion."
Eastern Bank and David Ortiz share a commitment to doing good things to help people prosper. Both are unwavering in their support of underserved communities, immigrant populations and children in need. Ortiz's extensive charitable work with the David Ortiz Children's Fund and the Jimmy Fund is inspirational and makes him an exceptional partner. To kick-off the partnership, Eastern and Ortiz teamed up for the first of many acts of good, by giving much-needed support to hurricane victims. Eastern Bank donated $10,000 to the David Ortiz Children's Fund, which will be used to provide critical support to communities that were impacted by Hurricane Irma.
"When most people think of David Ortiz, they'll remember the incredible legacy he left on the field for Boston. But what's more significant is the incredible work he does across New England and the Dominican Republic through his Children's Fund," says Eastern Bank CEO Bob Rivers. "This donation to hurricane relief is just one example of the many acts of good we will do throughout our partnership. David is a natural Partner For Good and we're excited to welcome him to the Eastern family and bring more good to the communities we serve."
As part of the partnership announcement, David Ortiz surprised unsuspecting Eastern Bank customers by coming out of retirement to take a swing at being Eastern Bank's designated "Good Teller" as part of a social media video series. Customers were shocked to find that David Ortiz was their personal teller-in-training but his signature smile was welcomed by all who have come to know, love and respect the sports icon.
As part of David Ortiz's partnership with Eastern Bank, Eastern Bank is now the "official New England Bank of Big Papi" and Ortiz will appear at special events, in advertising, community advocacy efforts, social media and more.
