Easter Seals Greater Houston Awarded Crucial Funding for Veterans' Mental Health
HOUSTON, Nov. 10, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Easter Seals Greater Houston and its collaborative partners have been chosen as recipients of the Texas Veterans + Family Alliance grant program from Texas Health and Human Services Commission with the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute serving as the program administrator. Houston, which has the 2nd highest population of veterans in the U.S., will have some critically needed funding for mental health services to reach veterans as well as their families. The progress to come, thanks to this award, gives us one more reason to celebrate this Veterans Day.
The project will include system level change/outreach and direct services to veterans and their families. The first goal is to increase collaboration and understanding of both veterans' needs and gaps and overlaps in services. The second project goal is to serve veterans and their families through counseling, case management, technology, telemedicine, and other supports that will increase access to mental health services. Mental health services will include individual and group mental health counseling, peer to peer supports, interventions and/or trainings. Services will be complimented by case management to help break down barriers to services and resources and by providing a consistent, trusted place where the veteran/family member can turn when issues arise.
ESGH is proud to be serving our veterans and their families in partnership with the American Legion Post 416, Brain Posit, Catholic Charities, Combined Arms, Council on Recovery, Crisis Intervention of Houston, Disability Rights Texas, The Dixon Center, Grace After Fire, Interfaith Ministries Meals on Wheels, My Service Dog, Operation Phantom Support, Xena Project, and U.S. VETS. In addition to serving as the lead for the Community Collaboration, ESGH's Housing & Financial Counseling, Supported Employment, Respite, Technology and Case Management Programs will provide services to the project's clients.
