Apl.de.Ap, Anita Lo and Willy Santos Featured
NEW YORK, May 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- In honor of Asian American Heritage Month, HBO has unveiled a new 3-part special, East of Main Street, on HBO On Demand (under the subcategory "Asian Heritage" in Movies) and HBO GO (under "Documentaries"). Available for viewing throughout the month of May, the special profiles three prominent Asian Americans: The Black Eyed Peas' Apl.de.Ap, "Top Chef Master" Anita Lo and professional skateboarder Willy Santos. East of Main Street is directed by Jonathan Yi and produced by eyepatch Productions. A trailer can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anTsP9J0Fqc
Viewers get a glimpse into the lives of these notable Asian Americans as they share stories of their experiences growing up in America, the significance of family and food, and the challenges they overcame to succeed in unconventional careers. Featuring in-depth interviews and observational footage interspersed with archival footage and photos to create an engaging visual story, the East of Main Street segments range in length from five to nine minutes.
"This year we wanted to look at Asian Americans who have embraced non-traditional paths and through their success have had an influence on both American and Asian American culture," said Yi, who also directed last year's East of Main Street: Asians Aloud for HBO.
"This is storytelling at its finest and meets a growing demand for smart and diverse content by the public," said David Zellerford, Executive Producer at eyepatch Productions, an independent, full-service production company and subsidiary of Ogilvy & Mather. "We're delighted to partner with HBO on this year's special. More and more viewers are getting their content on-demand and via streaming online services and eyepatch is excited to be providing original entertainment for these markets."
