Mr. Sayler has been an independent consultant for EAS since 2012. In that time, his expertise in the areas of food processing, particularly in the area of dairy processing, infant formula, food additives, botanical products and FDA food compliance issues has been of great value to EAS clients.
Allen Sayler grew up on a dairy farm in North Dakota and he has spent more than 30 years in the dairy food sector. For twelve of those years he served as vice president of regulatory affairs and international standards at the International Dairy Foods Association. Prior to that, he served for in the dairy division at USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service, and with FDA's Milk Safety Branch – including a stint as acting chief of the branch. He also spent ten years as Assistant Dairy Commissioner for the North Dakota Department of Agriculture. Prior to joining EAS full time, he was a Managing Partner of the Center for Food Safety & Regulatory Solutions.
Mr. Sayler has extensive knowledge of food production, processing, food safety and quality assurance programs. He is active in numerous organizations, including the National Conference on Interstate Milk Shipments, the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP), the International Dairy Federation (IDF) and the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) and the FDA Alumni Association. His honors include the International Association of Food Protection (IAFP) recipient of the Harold Barnum Award for contributions to the organization, the public and the food industry in the area of advancing food safety; as well as two Group Excellence Awards, one from FDA for the drug residue and dairy HACCP pilot project and the other from USDA for drafting and assisting in the implementation of the EU Certification program for dairy products. Mr. Sayler has qualified as Lead Instructor for the FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human Foods, a standardized curriculum for receiving "Preventive Control Qualified Individual" certification as required by the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).
Allen is a popular speaker and author on the subjects of food and cosmetic safety. His column, "Sayler on Safety" appears quarterly in Dairy Foods Magazine, is a "must read" for dairy processors committed to building and maintaining effective food safety programs that comply with government and customer requirements.
