Analyst Update: Financial Results, and Orphan Drug Designation
U.S. stocks closed higher on Monday, led by better than expected corporate earnings. The S&P 500 closed at 2114.49, up 0.29%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.26% to 18070.4, and the NASDAQ Composite ended the session at 5016.929, up 0.23%. European stocks gained on Monday, supported by strong manufacturing data across the region. Germany's DAX 30 rose 1.44%, and France's CAC 40 jumped 0.70%, while U.K. markets were closed for a public holiday. Meanwhile, Asian markets were mostly up on Monday, amid expectations that China will deploy stimulus measures to tackle slowing economic growth. The Shanghai Composite and Australia's S&P ASX ended higher, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng index closed flat.
On April 29, 2015, MCG Capital (MCG) announced its first quarter 2015 financial results (period ended March 31, 2015). The Company reported net income of $1.3 million, or $0.03 per share, in Q1 2015. It realized 8% IRR on the exit of its equity investment in RadioPharmacy and repurchased 1,061,075 shares of common stock at a weighted average purchase price of $3.93.
BGC Partners (BGC), a leading global brokerage company, reported its first quarter 2015 results on April 29, 2015. BGC's revenue was $547.6 in Q1 2015, up 23.1% YoY, from $444.8 in Q1 2014. Meanwhile, income from operations before tax rose significantly by 222.5% YoY to $36.3 million.
Xoom Corporation (Xoom), on April 28, 2015 reported its first quarter 2015 results. Revenue for the Q1 2015 was $44.4 million, up 24% YoY. Gross profit was $32.4 million in Q1 2015, an increase of 23% YoY. GAAP net loss for Q1 2015 was $1.3 million, or a loss of $0.03 per diluted share, compared to net income of $0.4 million, or $0.01 per diluted share, for Q1 2014.
Bio-Path Holdings (Bio-Path), a biotechnology company, on April 28, 2015 announced that it has received orphan drug designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its lead compound Liposomal Grb-2 for the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
IsoRay, Inc, a medical technology company, announced its financial results for Q2 and six months ended December 31, 2014, on February 18, 2015. Consolidate total net sales reached $1.1 million in Q2, down 1.8% YoY. For the six months ended December 31 2014, sales fell by 1.3% YoY, to $2.1 million.
