Pepco Holdings, Inc. Analyst Notes
On May 7, 2014, Pepco Holdings, Inc. (Pepco) reported a profit in Q1 2014 compared to a loss in the year-ago period, helped by higher electric distribution revenue, lower operation and maintenance expense and higher weather related sales in the Company's service territories. Pepco posted a net income from continuing operations of $75 million, or $0.30 per share, compared to a net loss of $111 million, or $0.47 per share, in Q1 2013. On an adjusted basis, the Company's net income from continuing operations stood at $0.30 per share versus $0.24 per share in the year-ago period. Analysts polled by Reuters expected the Company to report EPS of $0.24. For Q1 2014, Pepco announced operating revenues of $1.3 billion, up 12.7% YoY. Xcel Energy Inc. Analyst Notes
On May 13, 2014, Xcel Energy Inc. (Xcel) announced that it will invest approximately $557 million in new high-voltage transmission lines and substations over the next six years to supply power for the growing New Mexico and Texas economies for decades to come. According to Xcel, the high priority projects were approved by the Southwest Power Pool on April 29, 2014, and involve construction of 400 miles of new high-voltage transmission lines and 12 new substations, primarily in eastern New Mexico and West Texas. David Hudson, President and CEO of Southwestern Public Service Company, an Xcel Energy Company, said, "As a partner in this region's economic success, we're committing a huge amount of capital to sustain this growth well into the future."
