E-J Electric Installation Co. Completes Two Projects On ENR New York's 2017 Best Projects List
NEW YORK, Oct. 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- E-J Electric Installation Co. is proud to announce its participation in two construction projects recognized by Engineering News-Record (ENR) as 2017's best projects completed this year: phase one of the Second Avenue Subway and phase one of the Kosciusko Bridge replacement.
Only 31 projects were selected for judging, and of those, only 18 were cited as 'Best Projects.' Judges took safety, innovation, quality of design and project challenges into consideration for the selections process. Projects featured ranged from New York City's tallest towers to its deepest tunnels. Some are considered critical for boosting the local economy and many others are vital parts of transportation development.
Second Avenue Subway
The Second Avenue Subway, a $4.45-billion subway expansion project, was recognized by ENR as Project of the Year. The Second Avenue Subway is the first and only major expansion of the subway system in 50 years. It extends the Q line north and currently serves 176,000 passengers daily. E-J Electric's participation in the project meant coordinating and communicating on a job that required 32 other subcontractors and 350 people during the peak of design.
Replacement of Kosciuszko Bridge
Originally built in 1939, the Kosciusko Bridge is a 1.1-mile segment of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway over Newtown Creek between Morgan Avenue in Brooklyn and the Long Island Expressway Interchange in Queens. It is not only the first major new bridge since the Verrazano-Narrows in 1964, but the first cable-stayed in New York State. The bridge features unique, aesthetically-pleasing LED lighting that displays the sleek architecture as well as new traffic signals. The full electrical installation for the bridge was completed by E-J Electric. Services included power, roadway lighting, bridge lighting, ITS systems and new traffic signal installation.
"E-J Electric was selected for the Second Avenue Subway and Kosciuszko Bridge projects based on our reputation for excellence in heavy electrical construction on roadways, bridges and tunnels," said E-J Electric President and CEO Anthony Mann. "We are excited and humbled to have two of our projects included in ENR New York's 2017 Best Projects list."
