E-cig company, GreenSmartLiving, to aid Colorado wildfire relief effort
GreenSmartLiving will allocate 10% of its Colorado e-cig sales to Pikes Peak Community Foundation to help those affected by the Colorado wildfires.
SALT LAKE CITY, June 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- E-cigarette company, GreenSmartLiving, announced today that it will launch a wildfire aid program to help those affected by the Black Forest wildfire. From July through September, the company will donate 10% of its sales from the state of Colorado to Pikes Peak Foundation Emergency Relief Fund. This fund has been designated to benefit non-profits, first responders and other agencies providing shelter, food, water, cleanup materials, safety equipment and other assistance to the thousands of people who remain displaced from the most destructive wildfire in the state's history.
According to the U.S. National Park Service, humans cause 90% of U.S. forest fires; discarded cigarettes being one of the most commonly cited means. A study published earlier this year by the USDA estimates that an average of 418 forest fires are started by cigarette smokers each year, scorching an average of 22,387 acres of forest annually.
"Though a cigarette may not be responsible for the devastation and destruction the people of Colorado are facing as a result of these fires, we hope to educate the public about the fire danger cigarettes pose, provide an alternative that mitigates these dangers, while supporting those displaced in Colorado," said GreenSmartLiving CFO, Nathan Petersen.
Colorado residents interested in committing to a smoke-free lifestyle, reducing the number of cigarette-sparked fires, and supporting their displaced neighbors in need, can find GreenSmartLiving products at fine retail outlets across the state, and online.
