dzdock iPad/iPhone Stand Wins Global Award For 12-Year-Old Inventor
dzdock™ Brings Global Student Entrepreneur Award to an Inventive 12-Year-Old.
BETHLEHEM, Pa., Dec. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO) awarded twelve-year-old Dino Zaharakis its prestigious Global Student Entrepreneur Award for High School in the presence of 250 global CEOs in a ceremony at the New York Stock Exchange. Nearly 2,000 applicants from 42 countries competed in the 2011 GSEA. In October he also received "Most Innovative Product" award at Chicago's McCormick Center. Men's Health Magazine named dzdock one of its Five Favorite Stocking Stuffers.
And all because dzdock™, his universal iPad/iPhone stand, has become an international success.
The inability of many iPad docks and iPhone docks to accommodate the devices with a case led Dino to invent an iPad stand. He also noticed that although many devices were designed in the USA, few were made in the USA.
His goal was to develop a stand that could:
- place/remove a device without disconnecting its cable
- hold a device with/without a skin in both portrait and landscape modes
- be universal, accommodate iPad, Kindle, nook, tablets, iPhone /smartphones
- designed and made in the USA
Born in New York City and growing up in the rust-belt city of Bethlehem, PA, Dino knows the importance of hard work, locally-made products and American pride. It's a fitting tribute to Bethlehem Steel Corp that dzdock production prototypes were designed and made in their old headquarters, now occupied by Northampton Community College's Fab Lab.
Young Dino Zaharakis is a prime example of a new generation of inventors, full of optimism and hope, growing up undeterred by the more competitive global economy.
"Very cool," says Dino. "And a great reason to continue coming up with new ideas and products." His dzdock™ lists for $29.95 on Amazon but sells on his own website for just $19.99 -- using a promotional code ("EOGSEADZ") good through the end of the year.
What's next for the adolescent inventor? "I'm working on a fourth generation dzdock™, one that is extremely portable," he adds. "At the award presentation I met great people that offered encouragement and support. I'm even more excited about the future and its boundless opportunities."
Patent Pending dzdock™ is sold at dzdock.com and on Amazon.com
