DynamicOps Awarded U.S. Patent for End-to-End Management of Virtual and Physical Machines
Patent Includes 32 Claims Covering Lifecycle Management and Self-Service; Technologies are Foundation of DynamicOps Cloud Suite
BURLINGTON, Mass., May 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- DynamicOps, pioneer of the Operations Virtualization™ platform that enables unified cloud automation and management, today announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued DynamicOps a patent that covers complete lifecycle management and self-service of virtual and physical machines. The technologies covered in the patent form the foundation of the award-winning DynamicOps Cloud Suite.
The company unveiled that it was issued U.S. Patent No. 8,171,485 on May 1, 2012. Entitled, "Method and System for Managing Virtual and Real Machines," the patent includes 32 claims. The wide-reaching claims cover the entire method of managing a virtual machine and presenting a self-service catalogue to users in a highly personalized way. It includes lifecycle management for both virtual and physical machines over multiple platforms, using workflow engine to drive management, image storage and archiving, and decommissioning virtual machines, among other technologies.
"We're extremely pleased that the U.S. Patent Office recognizes the breadth of our innovation. The patent validates our unique approach to private/hybrid cloud management. The fact that we filed the application in September 2007—long before cloud computing and consumerization emerged as IT priorities—speaks to our ability to envision where the market is going and create solutions that meet emerging, yet critical, needs," said Leslie Muller, CTO and Founder of DynamicOps. "That the issuance of this patent follows record-setting customer adoption, as well as recognition from top influencers such as Gartner Cool Vendor, IDC Company to Watch, and Best of VMworld for Private Cloud, is enormously gratifying."
Muller, who is listed as the inventor on this patent, originated the technologies while at Credit Suisse, where he led the "data center of the future" initiative aimed at addressing the challenges inherent in deploying virtualization technology enterprise-wide. In 2008, after having used the solutions to manage tens of thousands of virtual machines, Muller spearheaded an effort to spin out a new company—DynamicOps—to further develop and market the technologies.
Today, DynamicOps enables the fastest time-to-cloud, allowing businesses to create large-scale private and/or hybrid cloud environments that meet an enterprise's diverse needs in just a few days and at a fraction of the typical cost. DynamicOps realized a 300% increase in new customers in 2011, including many Fortune 100 companies, and is realizing continued strong growth in 2012. Progressive companies including Dow Jones, Credit Suisse, NASDAQ, IRS, Turner Broadcasting, Northrup Grumman, Price Waterhouse Coopers and Verizon, among others, have successfully used the DynamicOps solution to boost efficiencies and savings.
