DuPont Fabros Technology, Inc. Wins Brill Award For Data Center Design
Uptime Institute honors winners in the 2015 Brill Awards for Efficient IT
WASHINGTON, March 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- DuPont Fabros Technology, Inc. (NYSE: DFT), a leading owner, developer, operator and manager of enterprise-class, carrier-neutral, large multi-tenant wholesale data centers, has been chosen as one of Uptime Institute's 2015 winners of the Brill Awards for Efficient IT. ACC7, DFT's newest data center located in Ashburn, VA, won the award in the category of Data Center Design.
The second annual Brill Awards recognizes IT efficiency in five categories (IT Systems Efficiency, Data Center Facilities Management, Data Center Design, Operational Data Center Upgrade and Product Solutions), across four global regions: North America; Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA); Latin America; and Asia-Pacific (APAC). The Data Center Design category focuses on data center capital projects that demonstrate the ability to deliver significant energy and resource efficiency and acknowledges the newest, most innovative data center designs.
"We are incredibly honored to win a Brill Award for our next generation data center design. This award further validates the innovative decisions we made," said Scott Davis, Executive Vice President, Operations. "By collaborating with our customers, aligning with industry trends and leveraging our vast experience in data center design, we are able to accommodate the high degree of flexibility and efficiency that customers seek."
DFT unveiled this latest design in its newest facility, ACC7, located on the company's Northern Virginia campus. Opened in September 2014, ACC7 is the largest and most energy efficient data center in DFT's portfolio. When designing the facility, DFT focused on three goals: 1. A data center that is less expensive to build on a per megawatt basis, 2. Lower maintenance costs, and 3. An industry-leading Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of below 1.2. Beyond the three primary goals, there were secondary goals of addressing the industry trends of the market and creating a product that exhibits a high degree of flexibility while appealing to a broad range of customers. The result was a variety of product offerings and room sizes with varying load densities.
One of the largest, multi-tenant data centers in North America, ACC7 boasts 446,000 gross square feet with a total critical power capacity of 41.6 megawatts when fully developed, 14 percent larger than anything DFT has previously built. Each of the 28 computer rooms are equipped to deliver an average critical load of 1.486 megawatts with the ability to increase density to offer up to 2.0 megawatts based on a customer's requirement. Ultimately, the design achieved an industry-leading PUE of 1.15, as calculated on an annualized basis. As of the end of February 2015, ACC7 phase I was 46 percent leased as measured by critical load and 37 percent leased as measured by computer room square feet (CRSF).
