Duke University Medical Center Study Finds Prodigy Blood Glucose Monitor System Ranks Highest In Quality Among Leading Brands
Diabetes testing supply company demonstrates quality assurance through comparative research study
CHARLOTTE, N.C., May 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Prodigy Diabetes Care (Prodigy) announced today that a recent study conducted by the Duke University revealed that the Prodigy AutoCode® blood glucose meter and test strip system is better than, or equivalent to, the leading brands in accuracy and reliability.
The comparative clinical study examined the accuracy and reliability of blood glucose meter systems produced by the four largest manufacturers in the U.S. (Abbott, Bayer, Roche and LifeScan), along with the Prodigy AutoCode® system. Two hundred tests were performed on each brand, across seven levels of blood glucose, against the FDA-Recognized Consensus Standard ISO 15197:2003. The Prodigy AutoCode® system passed every test.
"This comparative research study proves that the Prodigy AutoCode® is as good as, if not better than, the manufacturers with the largest market shares," said Rick Admani, Prodigy COO. "Prodigy has always been focused on superior clinical performance, and this study confirms the high-quality of Prodigy brand products. Our recently strengthened, long-term relationship with OK Biotech in the manufacturing and R&D areas will ensure the continued delivery of these reliable Prodigy supplies for people living with diabetes."
With reduced Medicare reimbursement rates for diabetes testing supplies going into effect July 1, 2013, the demand for high-quality, low-cost products has increased significantly among durable medical equipment suppliers and retailers. This study offers reassurance to those providers and patients who seek an affordable product that doesn't compromise accuracy or reliability.
Prodigy provided financial support to Duke University for the study, conducted by principal investigators Mark Feinglos, M.D. and Bruce Lobaugh, Ph.D.
Prodigy has manufactured and distributed the Prodigy AutoCode® system throughout the world for more than five years. AutoCode® supplies are available through mail order providers and retailers to beneficiaries of Medicare, many state Medicaid plans, and a wide variety of managed care plans throughout the United States.
