Duality Named as Runner-up in the iDASH 2018 Competition and Best Commercial Solution, Track 2
Duality Honored for Demonstration of SecurePlus Platform's Privacy-Preserving and Scalable GWAS Abilities Using their Commercial Homomorphic Encryption Capability
SAN DIEGO, Oct. 16, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Duality Technologies has been named as the runner-up and best commercial solution in the iDASH Competition 2018 Track 2: "Secure Parallel Genome Wide Association Studies using Homomorphic Encryption." The goal of this track is to develop a privacy-preserving and secure outsourcing solution to compute Genome Wide Association Studies (GWAS) based on homomorphically encrypted data. Duality's solution delivered runtime performance orders of magnitude faster than the next in rank without compromising accuracy. Teams competing on track 2 included industry and academic institutions, such as from UCSD, IBM Research, Seoul National University, A*STAR in Singapore and Delft University of Technology, among other encrypted computing startups.
Duality Technologies is a startup recently co-founded by an unparalleled team of world-class cryptographers and data scientists, including Prof. Shafi Goldwasser, Prof. Vinod Vaikuntanathan and Prof. Kurt Rohloff, all of whom play major roles in the development of secure computing in general and homomorphic encryption in particular since this technology's genesis. Duality's core team combines top crypto and AI talent focused on delivering scalable, high performance cryptography solutions to the market, enabling advanced analytics and AI on encrypted data.
"We are proud to have pioneered scalable homomorphic encryption solutions addressing privacy-protecting analysis of genomic data, delivering unprecedented performance to the market. This essential new paradigm unlocks collaboration possibilities for medical centers and care providers, bolstering opportunities for personalized medicine, while keeping sensitive data protected at all times," said Prof. Kurt Rohloff, Duality's CTO and Co-founder. For the first time ever, Duality demonstrated that large scale genomic studies can be performed on encrypted data in less than a minute, orders of magnitude faster than the current state of the art.
"Encrypted computing algorithms being developed by Duality Technologies will enable leading cancer research centers like DFCI to protect patient privacy while working collaboratively with other cancer researchers to identify prognostic biomarkers and develop more effective cancer treatments," said Alexander Gusev, Assistant Professor of Medicine at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) and Harvard School of Medicine.
Duality offers what was until recently considered an "impossible" technology, enabling advanced analysis of data while it remains encrypted – without ever exposing the raw data during the entire analytics pipeline. This unlocks endless impactful possibilities for data collaboration between parties without relying on trust. This capability enables migration of sensitive data analysis to the cloud without risking privacy. Duality's SecurePlus platform is the first market-ready solution to help address today's most pressing data privacy challenges while empowering businesses to maximize their valuable digital assets.
