DETROIT, Dec. 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- DTE Energy, Michigan's largest energy company, is ranked "Highest in Customer Satisfaction with Business Electric Service in the Midwest," according to J.D. Power's 2017 Electric Utility Business Customer Satisfaction StudySM released today. DTE thanked customers for recognizing its significant progress to deliver safer and more reliable service while providing products and programs that help businesses save money and operate more efficiently.
"On behalf of the 10,000 men and women of DTE Energy, we would like to thank our business customers for being valued partners in powering Michigan's future," said Trevor Lauer, president and chief operating officer of DTE Energy's electric company. "We are proud of the progress we have made to better serve our customers. However, we know our work is not done. We are committed to ongoing infrastructure upgrades and continued improvement in our products and services that meet the needs of our business customers while keeping energy prices affordable."
The study, now in its 19th year, measures business customer satisfaction with electric utility companies by examining six factors: customer service; power quality and reliability; corporate citizenship; billing and payment; pricing; and communication.
DTE has enhanced its focus on business customers in several ways. The company maintains a business center for small- to medium-sized commercial customers with a dedicated phone number that connects callers directly with DTE representatives who are knowledgeable about the company's business-focused services and offerings. Plus, anytime day or night, business customers can manage their accounts online with DTE's enhanced business web experience. In 2017, the company also conducted about 1,900 Business Energy Consultations to help business customers save money and energy.
Since 2014, DTE has improved power quality and reliability, and in areas where upgrades have been completed, power reliability has improved by 70 percent. These investments translate to new jobs and contracts with local firms and suppliers. This year alone, DTE spent about $1.4 billion with Michigan-based businesses.
DTE employees also are making a significant impact in the communities where they live and serve. Over the course of the year, they volunteered more than 40,000 hours at 200 area nonprofit organizations.
