DRS Successfully Demonstrates The First 10-micron High Performance Infrared Sensors
ARLINGTON, Va., April, 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- DRS Technologies, Inc., a Finmeccanica Company, announced today that its highly anticipated 10-micron pixel pitch infrared detector has been successfully demonstrated to select defense industry prime contractors. The company will continue to schedule private showcases during the SPIE DSS tradeshow in Baltimore, MD.
Initial demonstrations of the 10-micron pixel pitch sensor included an ultra-high resolution 1280x1024 thermal camera; and arrays of 640x512 and 320x256 suitable for most original equipment manufacturer integrations. The demonstrations also proved the sensor's performance capabilities of better than 50 mK noise equivalent temperature difference - a common measurement of sensitivity - the standard for most uncooled infrared products on the market today.
The evolution to the 10-micron pitch infrared detectors marks a major milestone for DRS and the infrared industry alike, enabling sensor manufacturing with reduced size, significant cost benefits and additional performance capabilities.
"In the race to smaller pixel pitch and lower cost products among manufacturers of infrared detectors, 10-micron technology puts DRS significantly ahead of its competitors," said Greg Christison, Senior Director of DRS Commercial Infrared Systems. "We maintain this position of leadership through continuous innovation and a commitment to ensuring that the product performance DRS is known for is not compromised for lower cost solutions."
