Dropcam iOS Apps Now Support Scheduling and Location-based Camera Control
Highly requested feature enables Dropcam to turn off or on at specific times or when customers leave or arrive at a location
SAN FRANCISCO, April 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Dropcam, Inc., makers of Dropcam HD – the award-winning Wi-Fi video camera with cloud-based monitoring and DVR service – today announced the availability of scheduling and location-based camera control for Dropcam iOS users. Customers with the latest version of Dropcam for iPhone or iPad can now set any Dropcam to turn off or on based on pre-determined settings such as location, time, or day.
"We designed Dropcam so you can start streaming and recording just two minutes after you take it out of the box," said Dropcam CEO and Co-Founder Greg Duffy. "Now, by enabling scheduling and making Dropcam apps location-aware, we give customers more control over streaming. This was one of our most popular requests from customers, so we're happy to deliver these new features as part our ongoing strategy to make Dropcam smarter through software."
The features let customers program Dropcam in a variety of ways. For example with Dropcam version 2.1 for iOS it is now possible to:
- Set Dropcam to turn off when you return home and turn on when you leave
- Set Dropcam to turn on and off at set times within a day
- Turn Dropcam on for a period of days while you are away for an extended period of time such as during a vacation
This new functionality is available as a free update today to Dropcam iOS apps in the Apple App Store. The new scheduling and location-based control features work with all Dropcam models, including Dropcam HD, Dropcam Echo, and Dropcam Original. Scheduling and location-based control are not currently available for Dropcam customers using the Dropcam Android app.
Dropcam HD is the only Wi-Fi video monitoring camera that offers truly simple and fast setup with intelligent monitoring features so people can check in on the things they care about from anywhere in the world 24/7. Dropcam utilizes bank-level security to encrypt all video so customers can rest assured that no one but them can ever access their video. Dropcam HD includes full 720p streaming, night vision, digital zoom and two-way talk back, and with the optional DVR service customers can access stored footage of the past seven or thirty days. Customers can also set up email and smartphone alerts triggered by Dropcam's motion and sound sensing technology. Dropcam HD is available on Amazon and dropcam.com for $149.
