CHICAGO, April 17, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Driehaus Museum offers fascinating lectures, concerts, tours, and more! The lineup for May through June 2015 is as follows:
Walking Tour: Lasting Legacies: The Grand Dames of McCormickville (Beginning May 2): Our newest walking tour illustrates seven civically-minded, entrepreneurial women who led fascinating lives in the prestigious neighborhood of McCormickville. Tours will be led by Chicago historian, Sally Sexton Kalmbach.
Concert: Lady Day: A Billie Holiday Tribute (May 8): On hundred years ago the legendary Billie Holiday was born and the world of jazz would never be the same. Come celebrate her life throughout an evening of song as jazz vocalist Sarah Marie Young pays tribute to this phenomenal artist. Billie's favorite songs, such as "Summertime" and "I'm a Fool to Love You" will be performed in addition to other classics.
Lecture: Beautiful, Useful, Enduring: Chicago Arts & Crafts Jewelry (May 21): Join historian, Sharon Darling, as she discusses the artistic and social revival associated with the Chicago Arts & Crafts movement of the early twentieth century.
Lecture: The Lower End of Splendor: Middle Class Jewelry in Context (June 4): For most of human history, jewelry has been a symbol of status and wealth. Using several jewelry pieces, the Newark Museum's Curator of Decorative Arts, Ulysses Grant Dietz, will show the differences and the similarities between the upper and lower reaches of splendor.
Travel Tour: Destination Historic Milwaukee, Wisconsin (June 13): Our 4th travel tour takes us north to Milwaukee to visit two important Midwest sites: the Pabst Mansion and the Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum.
