SAN FRANCISCO, July 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Dreamstime, the leading community in stock photography, today announced it implemented a significant improvement to its website security by switching all site pages to "HTTPS" including the dedicated mobile website and the Dreamstime applications for iOS and Android.
The move to HTTPS adds an extra layer of security, as secondary non-HTTPS website pages can become conduits for hackers through what's known as "man-in-the-middle" and eavesdropping attacks. HTTPS encrypts all of the information that is transmitted between a website and an individual's browser.
"Since our founding we've worked hard to protect the security and data of our users, contributors, and partners," said Serban Enache, the company's CEO and co-founder. "Enhancing security is an ongoing process and a consistent focus of our management team. All of our purchasing and login pages were of course HTTPS previously, but we've now taken the extra step of further securing all pages with encryption. It's the latest example of our customer-first approach."
Dreamstime takes security seriously and recommends its users follow best practices to help protect their personal information:
- Use complicated passwords that blend letters, numbers, and special characters. Consider using a unique phrase such as "Charlie likes to have breakfast at dawn" and then take the first letter of each word, so the password would include Clthbad, and then add meaningful numbers and characters. Complex passwords are much less vulnerable to hacking attempts.
- When using a public or friend's computer, avoid logging into Dreamstime and other sites used to make purchases. If such a computer must be used, then click "log out" and clear browser cookies when finished.
- Avoid public Wi-Fi whenever possible, especially when accessing important sites. Use a smartphone as a secure hotspot as an alternative.
