Anfi Resorts have provided luxury accommodation for over two decades, attracting families from all around the globe. In a privileged setting on the sun-kissed south of Gran Canaria, nestled between mountains and the sea, Anfi delivers dream holidays which exceed expectations. And to trace the origins of those dream holidays we need to travel back twenty-five years - to one man's incredible vision.
Whilst on a fishing trip off the coast of Mogan at the beginning of his retirement, Norwegian entrepreneur Bjorn Lyng glimpsed an impressive mountainside rising from a small, pebble-covered inlet. Around the same time, in the neighbouring village of Arguineguin, Fernando Jiménez and his wife Eva Silva were celebrating the birth of their baby boy, David Josué Jiménez Silva - who would one day gain international footballing fame.
While David was taking his first steps in 1988, Bjorn Lyng had become the proud owner of the Playa de la Verga and the surrounding area, and started the ambitious task of revitalising the mountain which would eventually become Anfi del Mar.
2013 marks 25 years since the excavation of that mountainside - an anniversary that fills the team at Anfi with deep pride. And who better to help celebrate the quarter-of-a-century birthday than local hero - the internationally renowned mid-fielder David Silva.
Throughout 2013, the Manchester City player will feature in a European publicity campaign as an Anfi Ambassador. His image will appear alongside photos of Anfi - especially Anfi beach - on buses, taxis, metro stations and in-flight magazines, together with slogans encouraging people to visit Gran Canaria and Anfi such as: "This is my beach", "Welcome to my home" and "See you soon at Anfi".
The twenty-six year old is delighted to represent the Anfi Group in its major European Markets. During a recent visit with some of his teammates, Silva said: "Any time I can, I escape to Gran Canaria and spend time at Anfi - which for me is a unique place in Europe. I'm proud to represent such an important company for my island that continues to create employment for my community."
Anfi Group CEO, José Luis Trujillo, is equally delighted to have Silva in the Anfi team - "David perfectly represents Anfi Group's values. He embodies a spirit of perseverance, winning and teamwork. We are delighted that this local hero is joining us during our twenty-fifth anniversary celebrations - an occasion for retrospection as well as an opportunity to share our vision for the next twenty-five of Anfi's development."
Throughout the whole of 2013 Anfi will be running raffles, social network campaigns, and opportunities for members to meet Silva to mark the celebrations.
