Dr. Walter Albert Hairston Honored for Dedication to Military Service and Education

PHOENIX, Md., July 25, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Walter Albert Hairston is a distinguished biographee of Marquis Who's Who. Known as "Colonel Buffalo," Dr. Hairston is widely regarded for his former experience in the U.S. Army. Prior to his retirement from active service in 1988, he served his country faithfully for more than four decades. During this time, Dr. Hairston filled various military roles, including as the chief evaluator and director of Command and General Staff College, commandant of the 2071st U.S. Army School, and member of the Functional Area Assessment Team with the Transportation Corps. Upon completing military service, Dr. Hairston joined the Baltimore City Department of Education, where he was recognized as a teacher, principal and school system administrator prior to his retirement.
A respected military expert, Dr. Hairston is credited with authoring numerous written works, including "No Excuses" and "Who's Colonel Buffalo?" He maintains involvement with a wide range of organizations, including the Baltimore Mules, Jacksonville Neighborhood Association, Masons, International Thespian Society, Kappa Delta Pi and Committee X-71. In addition, Dr. Hairston is recognized as a lifetime member of Kappa Alpha Psi. He recently served as commander of Post 301 with the American Legion in Jacksonville in 2006.
Although Dr. Hairston is noted for many career accomplishments, he takes the greatest pride in having a true impact on those with similar backgrounds, such as veterans. He was recently inducted into the Atkins High School Hall of Fame in 2009. Since the inception of his career, Dr. Hairston has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in the World. In addition, he has been selected to receive numerous awards from the U.S. Postal Service, such as the Superior Recognition Certificate in 1996 and Honorary Recognition Certificate in 1995. Dr. Hairston was most recently listed among Marquis Who's Who Top Educators in 2018.
Early in his career, Dr. Hairston completed coursework through the Non Commissioned Officers Leadership School and Air Transport Ability School. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Science from Morgan State University in 1959 and Master of Education from Loyola College in 1970. A graduate of the United States Army Command and General Staff College and National Defense University, Dr. Hairston most recently received a Doctor of Education from Morgan State University in 2014.
