PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla., Feb. 2, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- In 2017, Dr. Thomas A. Pane, a double-board certified plastic surgeon and founder of Atlantic Coast Aesthetics in, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, was delighted by the popularity of his weekly "Ask Dr. Pane" series.
Now, Dr. Pane is starting 2018 of with a proverbial bang by answering another question via blog and video that recently came in from a patient. As Dr. Pane noted, the new question asked "What are my post-bariatric surgery options? Also, should I start on the upper or lower body first?"

As Dr. Pane noted, while bariatric surgery may be very effective at helping people to lose weight, it may also affect the appearance and functioning of the body in ways that requires additional surgeries. For example, post-bariatric weight loss is commonly accompanied by an excess of skin, which can cause patients to seek cosmetic surgery to remove it.
First, Dr. Pane noted, where the excess skin is located will determine which surgical procedures are appropriate.
"The corrective procedures for the upper body include face, neck, arm and breast lift and possibly abdominoplasty, while for the lower body abdominoplasty, thigh lift and beltectomy, where excess skin is excised all or most of the way around the body are performed," he wrote, adding that normally, a patient with a great deal of excess skin on the trunk should begin with the central body.
In general, Dr. Pane sees good results from starting with an extended abdominoplasty, which firms and tightens the skin of the abdomen, flanks and upper thighs, as well as the abdominal muscles.
