Dr. Susan Melvin, Long Beach Memorial Chief Medical Officer, Named Among Top U.S. Physician Leaders
LONG BEACH, Calif., May 25, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Long Beach Memorial Chief Medical Officer Susan Melvin, D.O.—prominent figure in family medicine, medical leadership and physician education and training —has been named to Becker's Healthcare Top U.S. Hospital and Health System Chief Medical Officers.
"Dr. Melvin is committed to improving and innovating patient quality and safety, exhibits dedication to clinical leadership and contributes to establishing standards of excellence," according to Becker's Healthcare national media organization.
Dr. Melvin—who also appeared on Becker's Healthcare Top Hospital & Health System Women Leaders—has been Long Beach Memorial's Chief Medical Officer since 2012. In her role at the West's second largest hospital campus, she partners with physician leadership to advance physicians and advocate for patients. She is the bridge between the 2,000-member medical staff and management, fulfilling the vision of communication, education, collaboration and quality of care provided by the hospital's mission.
She was previously Long Beach Memorial's Associate Chief Medical Officer, President and CEO of Memorial Family Medicine, Director of the Family Residency Program, served on MemorialCare Health System's board of directors and was Chair of the 2,000-member MemorialCare Physician Society.
Dr. Melvin has academic appointments as Clinical Professor at University of California, Irvine College of Medicine and Western University of Health Sciences. Appointee of former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2006 to the Osteopathic Medical Board of California, she was reappointed in 2009 for a second three-year term and was an officer of that board.
American Academy of Family Physicians Fellow, Dr. Melvin holds a certificate of added qualifications in Geriatric Medicine, is a member of American Association of Physician Leadership and completed University of Southern California's Management Development Program. Her career began in 1987 as City of Long Beach Police Surgeon.
