Dr. Smith's® Goes To Washington To Participate In White House HFC Industry Leadership Roundtable
Company utilizes environmentally friendly propellant technology for new zinc oxide aerosol spray products.
SAN ANTONIO, Sept. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The White House convened a group of public and private industry leaders yesterday to discuss ways to curb emissions of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). As the only invited company to represent a consumer brand, Mission Pharmacal Company participated in the White House Industry Leadership Roundtable discussion to share information on the company's newest innovation. The company recently announced the launch of its Dr. Smith's® zinc oxide aerosol spray products – Dr. Smith's® Diaper Rash Spray, Dr. Smith's® Rash+Skin™ Spray and Dr. Smith's® Adult Barrier Spray – that are poised to help set the environmental standard for aerosol performance.
The Dr. Smith's line of aerosol spray products contain Honeywell's patented Solstice® Propellant – one of the most environmentally preferable aerosol technologies available today – to bring to market three new products used in the treatment and prevention of diaper rash and associated skin irritations in babies, adults and seniors.
The three Dr. Smith's spray products are the first zinc oxide aerosol products available in the health and wellness category that are formulated with the Solstice® Propellant, which is non-flammable, has ultra-low global warming potential (GWP), is not an HFC and is not a volatile organic compound (VOC). Solstice® Propellant has a GWP of less than 1, which is 99 percent lower than the GWP of HFC-134a, one of the most common propellants on the market today. Formulated Solutions, the manufacturer of these aerosol sprays, also played an important role in the development of these products.
"Mission Pharmacal always looks for ways to create innovative healthcare products," says Neill Walsdorf, Jr., President of Mission Pharmacal. "Honeywell Solstice® Propellant, with its environmental and safety profile, brings value to Dr. Smith's brand while vastly reducing environmental impact. This is a great product for moms and Mother Earth."
During the White House Roundtable, the Administration announced new private sector commitments and executive actions to reduce emissions of HFCs, powerful greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change. Mission Pharmacal joined a distinguished list of U.S. companies, ranging from major chemical manufacturers, including DuPont to some of the biggest users of refrigerants, such as Coca-Cola and PepsiCo and the retailers Target and Kroger.
Without private sector commitments to reduce emissions of HFCs like Mission Pharmacal announced, U.S. HFC emissions are expected to nearly double by 2020 and triple by 2030. As part of the Climate Action Plan the President launched last year, the Administration is partnering with industry leaders like Mission Pharmacal that are investing in the next generation of safer HFC alternatives and incorporating climate-friendly technologies into their products and services.
