MIDLAND, Mich., May 2, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A fascinating local connection takes place as internationally acclaimed Dr. Seuss collection curator Bill Dreyer visits his hometown to deliver a rousing opening night lecture on the beloved American author and illustrator.
Mr. Dreyer grew up in Midland, Michigan, attending Plymouth Elementary, Northeast Intermediate and Midland High School. As director and curator for The Art of Dr. Seuss Collection, he is recognized as the leading art authority on Theodor Seuss Geisel, with a specific focus on prominent public and private collections. A frequent lecturer on the art and life of Dr. Seuss, he manages and curates Dr. Seuss art exhibitions at fine art galleries and museums around the world.
Mr. Dreyer's lecture "The Secret Art of Dr. Seuss" – a behind-the-scenes look at the art and life of Theodor Seuss Geisel – takes place Saturday May 14 at 7 p.m. at Midland Center for the Arts in conjunction with the opening of "The Art of Dr. Seuss: A Retrospective Exhibition" in 4th floor galleries of the Alden B. The Art of Dr. Seuss: A Retrospective Exhibition
From May 14 through September 1, 2016, the Alden B. Dow Museum of Science and Art inside Midland Center for the Arts presents "The Art of Dr. Seuss: A Retrospective Exhibition," celebrating the art and life of Theodor Seuss Geisel and chronicling the common artistic links found throughout his nearly-70 years of creativity.
The exhibition explores known and unknown facets of Ted Geisel's life including careers as an editorial cartoonist, advertiser, military propagandist, children's book author, poet, sculptor, and influential artist. Works in the exhibition include both original materials and imagery re-created from significant public and private collections and feature rare and never-before-seen images from the 1920s to 1990s.
