Dr. Robert Daroff is recognized by Continental Who's Who
CLEVELAND, July 31, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Robert Daroff is recognized by Continental Who's Who as a Pinnacle Lifetime Member in recognition of his contributions to the Medical and Higher Education fields. Dr. Daroff serves as a Professor and Chair Emeritus of Neurology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
Beginning both his academic and medical careers with a 12th Grade Certificate from the University of Chicago, where he roomed with Carl Sagan, Dr. Daroff earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1957 and then continued at the university to earn his Medical degree in 1961. He then completed a rotating internship at Philadelphia General Hospital after which he became a Neurology resident at Yale- New Haven Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident. During his second year as a resident, he had a three month fellowship in Neuro-Ophthalmology at the University of Miami School Of Medicine.
In 1965 – 67, Dr. Daroff served in the United States Army Medical Corps, earning the rank of Captain. He held a number of posts, including Chief of Neurology Service at the Ireland Army Hospital in Fort Knox; and Chief, Neurological Consultation and Treatment Center, 93rd Evacuation Hospital, Long Binh, South Vietnam.
After leaving the Army, Dr. Daroff completed another fellowship in Neuro-Ophthalmology at the University of California School Of Medicine in San Francisco. He then joined the faculties of Neurology and Ophthalmology at the University of Miami School of Medicine. In 1990, he joined the faculty of Case Western Reserve School of Medicine as Chair of the Department of Neurology. Thereafter, he has held several positions at the Medical School and hospital. He was Vice-Dean for Education in the Medical School and, since 2008, he serves as Associate Dean for Development.
Additionally, Dr. Daroff has been President of the American Neurological Association and the American Headache Society, and was Chair of the Medical/Scientific Advisory Board of the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America. He was recently Chair of the International Advisory Committee of the Saudi Alzheimer's Disease Association and is currently a member of their Consultative Council.
Dr. Daroff has been on the Editorial Boards of 21 scientific journals and was Editor-in Chief of Neurology, the official publication of the American Academy of Neurology, from 1987 to 1996. He currently serves as Scientific Integrity Advisor for Neurology and the Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology. He is also Senior Editorial Advisor for the journal Headache.
As a result of his outstanding accomplishments in the field, Dr. Daroff has amassed an impressive number of honors and awards, including the Ernst Jung Gold Medal; the Silver Jubilee Oration Award from the Medical college of Trivandrum in India; the John H. Budd Distinguished Member Award from the Cleveland Academy of Medicine; and Lifetime Achievement in Neurological Education, to name a few.
