ONTARIO, Calif., Sept. 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Prem Reddy, MD, FACC, FCCP, Chairman, President and CEO of Prime Healthcare, has once again been named to Modern Healthcare's prestigious list of the "100 Most Influential People in Healthcare" for 2017. This is the fourth time that Dr. Reddy has been recognized as among the most influential healthcare leaders in the nation.
"I am humbled and honored by this recognition," said Dr. Reddy. "It is rewarding to see Prime Healthcare recognized by one of the most respected healthcare industry publications for being at the forefront of patient quality, innovation and preserving crucial, safety-net hospitals for communities across the United States."
Arizona Senator John McCain led the Modern Healthcare list this year. Dr. Reddy, a board certified cardiologist, joins a prestigious and varied group ranging from leaders of the nation's largest payers and providers to cabinet members and Congressional representatives. Among this year's honorees are Dr. John Noseworthy, President and CEO of the Mayo Clinic; Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell; Joseph Swedish, Chairman, President and CEO of Anthem; and Trevor Fetter, Chairman and CEO of Tenet Healthcare Corp. In addition to Senator McCain, Modern Healthcare also recognized two other Senators – Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine – for breaking ranks with their party and playing a pivotal role in changing the direction of the health care reform debate.
Dr. Reddy was also recognized this week on Becker's Hospital Review's List of 112 Physician Leaders to Know, 2017. He has appeared nine times on Modern Healthcare's "50 Most Influential Physician Executives and Leaders."
"Dr. Reddy's distinguished record of accomplishments and ability to combine innovation with high quality standards toward patient excellence has helped achieve Prime Healthcare's vision for the future of community hospitals," said Linda Bradley, CEO of Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Inglewood, CA. "Prime Healthcare is not just a company with a visionary, but a visionary company, and that is because of Dr. Prem Reddy."
Since acquiring Centinela Hospital in 2007 from the brink of bankruptcy, Prime Healthcare has invested more than $109 million in capital equipment and renovation, including an emergency room expansion currently in progress. Centinela most recently received the "Quality Improvement Innovation Award" from Healthgrades and is consistently ranked among the Top 100 hospitals in the nation for quality care. Centinela Hospital is just one example of Prime Healthcare's unique ability to save and transform community hospitals.
Modern Healthcare's list is a compilation based on more than 6,800 submissions from the publication's readers and nearly 74,000 votes. Reader votes made up 50 percent of the final outcome; Modern Healthcare's senior editors' votes made up the other 50 percent. This was the 16th year Modern Healthcare has published the list, which recognizes "the most influential individuals in the industry, in terms of leadership and impact."
Dr. Reddy is a generous leader, donating millions toward charities that provide educational scholarships and free healthcare. Through his charitable foundations, he has donated more than $800 million to fund not for profit hospitals, charitable missions and universities, including the creation of a new, non-profit medical school that will be located in San Bernardino County, California.
Dr. Reddy founded Prime Healthcare in 2001 and has led the health system to become one of the fastest growing and fifth largest for-profit systems in the country with 45 hospitals in 14 states.
