Dr Pepper And Walmart Kick-off Tuition Giveaway
Live Events at Walmart Stores Award A Few Lucky Shoppers With Up To $5000 Toward College Tuition
PLANO, Texas, Sept. 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr Pepper is teaming up with Walmart to help students defray the cost of a college education in the 2015 Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway.
With student debt at an all-time high, the campaign speaks to the heart of what matters most to students — while the event-driven effort shares in the excitement and celebration of a new season of college football. With the 2015 Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway, Dr Pepper will be hosting live events at select Walmart stores in the biggest college football towns, and the retail tailgates will enable students to play football-related games and win money toward tuition. The promotion runs through October 4.
Dr Pepper street teams will visit five Walmart stores in each of 10 college football havens: Eugene, Oregon; Ames, Iowa; Columbus, Ohio; Lansing, Michigan; Birmingham, Alabama; Madison, Wisconsin; Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Dallas; Austin, Texas; and Clemson, South Carolina. Contestants have the opportunity to play a digital football game and a winner for each event is chosen to compete in the finals at a Walmart store on Sunday, where they challenge one another in a football toss contest. The winner earns $5,000 toward tuition and all others win $2,000. Branded merchandise will also be distributed.
"Dr Pepper knows how much college students love college football and take pride in their school's team. We want to celebrate the joys of college football with them, but we also understand the pressures they can feel with the rising cost of school tuition. This is why we have teamed up with Walmart to bring some football fun to stores and help deserving students move one step closer to achieving a college education," says Roy Wright, VP of National Accounts, Dr Pepper Snapple Group.
The program is part of the annual Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway, which includes a $20,000 tuition giveaway located at www.drpepperplaybook.com. Contestants have the opportunity to play the same digital football game offered at the local events. At the end of game play, they can enter to win the grand prize. Historically, Dr Pepper has awarded more than $7 million in tuition prizes since 2008 to students across the country. The Tuition Giveaway promotion is also the start of Dr Pepper's engagement with college football. Dr Pepper will once again be a partner of the College Football Playoffs, following up on last year's hugely successful partnership with the first-ever playoffs. Additionally, the events reinforce Walmart as the place to go for college football gamedays to stock up on Dr Pepper. Walmart is the unofficial headquarters for all tailgate needs and there will be offers on select Dr Pepper products.
