Dr. Mitchell S. Rosenthal, Founder of Phoenix House, Elected to the Board of Directors of the Partnership for a Drug-Free America
NEW YORK, July 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Partnership for a Drug-Free America is pleased to announce the election of Mitchell S. Rosenthal, M.D. to its Board of Directors. Dr. Rosenthal is a nationally renowned psychiatrist and founder of Phoenix House, one of the nation's leading substance abuse services organizations. A pioneer in the field of substance abuse treatment, he introduced therapeutic models that have become standard throughout the field.
"We are honored and excited to have Dr. Rosenthal join our Board," said Partnership Chairman, Patricia Russo. "As a leading expert on addiction treatment, his board membership reaffirms our commitment to helping parents intervene in and find treatment for drug and alcohol abuse by their children. With his deep insight and experience, he will help us further equip parents and caregivers with information to protect their teens, guide them when their child needs help or support them and their child through recovery."
Dr. Rosenthal led Phoenix House as President and CEO from 1967 to 2007, an organization with more than 150 programs in ten states, serving 7,000 program participants each day. During those four decades, he built Phoenix House by expanding government contract support, increasing third-party revenues, developing a robust fundraising capacity and instituting new management systems. He continues to work on clinical programming and remains a chief spokesman for the organization and is a leading advocate for the field as head of the Rosenthal Center for Clinical and Policy Studies.
"Parents have come to trust the Partnership to provide them with accurate information and useful resources whether they are striving to prevent drug and alcohol use in their families or help a child struggling through addiction," said Steve Pasierb, President and CEO of the Partnership. "We rely heavily on our scientific advisors and board members like Dr. Rosenthal to help us meet the needs of families with tools that translate the latest behavioral research and addiction science. His expertise and direct involvement will only make our life-changing work even stronger and better."
Dr. Rosenthal served as a White House advisor on drug policy and a special consultant to the Office of National Drug Control Policy, and chaired the New York State Advisory Council on Substance Abuse for most of the past two decades.
