Dr. Michelle B. Tarbox is recognized by Continental Who's Who
LUBBOCK, Texas, Aug. 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Michelle B. Tarbox is recognized by Continental Who's Who as a Pinnacle Professional in the field of Medicine. Dr. Tarbox is a Dermatologist and Assistant Professor of Dermatology and Dermatopathology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.
Dr. Michelle Tarbox has been recognized nationally as a Doctor of Excellence and a Leader in Healthcare and was included in the 2014 Edition of Physicians Review for her exemplary patient care and leadership in her field. She is licensed to practice medicine in both Texas and Missouri. Dr. Tarbox's areas of specialty include dermatology, dermatopathology, and medical instruction. She is affiliated with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society of Dermatopathologists, Women's Dermatologic Society, Texas Medical Association, American Medical Association, Sigma Xi Research Honors Society, Alpha Omega Alpha, and Phi Beta Kappa. In 2014 she received Compassionate Doctor Recognition from Vitals for her excellent patient care.
Throughout the course of her productive career, Dr. Tarbox has spoken as a guest lecturer for the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, the Brazilian Society of Dermatology, the Women's Dermatologic Society, and the American Academy of Dermatology. She is also an active clinical researcher and currently has grants in place to study acne scarring treatments and cosmetic dermatology. Dr. Tarbox has contributed significantly to the scientific literature through original research, case reports, review articles, book chapters, and an honors thesis. In addition to her clinical work and teaching, she works with the Women's Dermatological Society where she offers free cancer screenings. She has also done numerous interviews for print journalism on a variety of topics from skin care to skin cancer prevention and does television interviews with local news media to provide public education about dermatologic concerns.
Dr. Tarbox also volunteers regularly at the Impact Health Free Clinic to care for those without medical insurance. She serves on her university's Educational Policy Committee and the Faculty Research Committee. In recognition of her institutional service, she was appointed as the Assistant Dean of Medical Student Affairs in 2015. She has participated in several prestigious leadership training activities and was selected as a member of the Texas Medical Association Leadership Class in 2015, the Early Career Women Professional Development Seminar for the Association of American Medical Colleges in 2015, and the Academic Dermatology Leadership Program with the American Academy of Dermatology in 2016. In her personal life, she is active with local musical theater groups and is the lead singer in a local rock band that performs regularly at local entertainment venues.
Dr. Tarbox obtained her Medical degree from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine, graduating as the highest ranked graduate in her class of one hundred and fifty medical students. She was recognized for her superior surgical skills and surgical knowledge with the Francis C. Jackson Award for Excellence in Surgery and for outstanding knowledge in pharmaceuticals with the Alexander D. Kinney Award for Excellence in Pharmacology. She earned a competitive internship in internal medicine, and a dermatology residency, and dermatopathology fellowship at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio where she was recognized for her extraordinary teaching abilities and her dedication to medical education. Following the completion of her training, she served as an assistant professor of Dermatology and Dermatopathology at St. Louis University where she was recognized as Teacher of the Year in 2012. Dr. Tarbox joined the faculty of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in August 2013 and was awarded the Dean's Clinical Teaching Award for Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in 2015.
