Dr. Luis A. Rivera Recognized by Strathmore's Who's Who Worldwide Publication

SYOSSET, N.Y., June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Luis A. Rivera, of San Juan, Puerto, has been included in the Strathmore's Who's Who Worldwide Edition for his outstanding contributions and achievements in the field of chemistry.

ABOUT DR. LUIS A. RIVERA

Dr. Rivera has more than 32 years of experience in the chemistry field.  He served as a Research Professor at the University of Puerto Rico – Mayaguez Campus (UPRM), from 2002 to the present.  From 1996 to 2003, he was a Chemistry Associate Research Professor and from 1993 to 1996, served as a Chemistry Auxiliary Research Professor.  Dr. Rivera was a Chemistry Director/Coordinator of the Central Research Instrumentation Laboratory (CRIL) from 1993 to 2001.  He also was a Senior Analytical Chemist from 1988 to 1992, with Eli-Lilly Industries, Inc., in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.  Dr. Rivera is currently a researcher at UPRM.  He specializes in organic synthesis, photophysics and photochemistry, analytical chemistry, chemical and biological sensors using fluorescence and related technique and nanotechnology and is presently working in nanotechnology in the applications of non-toxic quantum dots and photodynamic therapy for cancer diagnostics.  Dr. Rivera received a B.S. in Chemistry, 1972, M.S. in Organic Chemistry, 1978 and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, 1990, all from the University of Puerto Rico at Rio Piedras.  He has published five articles.  He is a member of various associations and societies including the American Chemical Society, American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists and the Puerto Rico Chemists Association.  Dr. Rivera currently resides in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, with his wife, Francisca, where he enjoys coin and stamp collecting, reading and playing chess and pool.
