LOUISVILLE, Ky., Feb. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Kentucky's all-new, nonprofit health insurance carrier, Kentucky Health Cooperative, Inc., today announced that David Leon Mooneyhan, of Shelbyville, has been named to its board of directors. Mooneyhan, CEO of Ohio Valley Educational Cooperative and former superintendent of the Shelby and Fulton County boards of education, brings to Kentucky Health Cooperative 40 years of strategic planning, operating and financial management experience.

Mooneyhan joined Ohio Valley Educational Cooperative in Shelbyville in 2004. He earned a Ph.D. in Education Administration and Supervision from George Peabody College for Teachers, now a part of Vanderbilt University. He is a past president of the Kentucky Association of School Superintendents and of the Kentucky Association of School Administrators. He has also held a governing board seat on the governing board of the American Association of School Administrators and has served as an advisory board member of Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville.

Kentucky Health Cooperative, based in Louisville, is dedicated to improving health outcomes by providing member-focused, accessible, cost-effective and quality-focused health care coverage to individuals and small groups living in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Kentucky Health Cooperative was identified by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to receive loans to create and operate a Consumer Oriented and Operated Plan, or CO-OP. CO-OPs are nonprofit health insurance companies that will be member-governed in 2015.
