Dr. Kiya Movassaghi Says VOLUMA is Filling a Much-Needed Niche in Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation
Juvederm's VOLUMA XC offers a natural appearance and long-lasting help for hollowed cheeks without surgery or implants.
EUGENE, Ore., Aug. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Not long ago, if you wanted to restore a youthful shape to aging, hollowed cheeks, options for doing so without a surgical procedure were extremely limited. But thanks to Juvederm's VOLUMA XC, a dermal filler designed specifically to restore volume to the cheeks, this is no longer the case, says Eugene plastic surgeon Dr. Kiya Movassaghi.
For over a decade, injectable dermal fillers have been used to help patients smooth facial wrinkles and add volume to smaller areas such as the lips; however, the cheeks have been a more challenging area to treat effectively with fillers.
"Other injectable fillers are excellent for adding volume to smaller areas, but are not designed to be used in the quantities needed for the cheeks," explains Dr. Movassaghi, adding that options such as Juvederm XC or Restylane are too soft and spread too much to provide the structure needed for natural looking, lasting cheek enhancement. "Patients who wanted to get fuller, rounder cheeks were limited to cheek implants or fat grafting, both of which require a surgical approach. In my experience, VOLUMA treatments can achieve remarkably natural results without the added expense or recovery involved with surgery."
VOLUMA is also long-lasting, Dr. Movassaghi explains. "Injections need to be repeated every 2 years, which is a good interval for adjusting treatment to account for the natural aging process and thus maintain the most natural-looking results possible."
Dr. Movassaghi began providing VOLUMA to his patients shortly after the product received FDA approval in late 2013. He outlines some of the ways VOLUMA has proved a satisfying solution for many of his patients:
- Giving a modest lift to the cheeks. VOLUMA is thicker and can be injected more deeply than other fillers, allowing Dr. Movassaghi to position the filler so it subtly lifts the cheeks, lending a more youthful contour to the mid-face.
- Adding shape to flat or hollowed cheekbones. VOLUMA can help enhance the apple, apex, and hollow of the cheeks, adding structure to hollowed cheeks.
- Help reduce the appearance of lower eyelid bags. In certain cases, restoring volume to sagging cheeks with VOLUMA to cheeks can help smooth the transition between eyelids and the upper cheeks, lessening the appearance of eyelid bags.
According to Dr. Movassaghi, a typical treatment takes about 30 to 60 minutes to perform and no anesthesia is required. Results can be seen immediately, but continue to take shape over approximately 2 weeks following treatment. The volumizing effects of VOLUMA can be expected to last about 2 years.
Dr. Movassaghi emphasizes that while the unique properties of VOLUMA make it optimal for cheek enhancement, provider skill is essential to achieving natural results. "VOLUMA must be injected in the proper location and amounts to produce the desired effect and each patient requires an individualized approach," adding that he personally performs injections for his patients.
Dr. Movassaghi is available for interview to discuss VOLUMA and other options for facial rejuvenation.
