CHEVY CHASE, Md., July 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Karyne E. Messina has been recognized by Continental Who's Who as a Pinnacle Professional in the field of Psychology. Dr. Messina is a psychologist, psychoanalyst, and educational specialist with over 30 years of professional experience.
Dr. Messina graduated from George Washington University with a Doctorate in Human Development. Her doctoral degree included the study of Abnormal Psychology as well as Psychological Testing and Assessment. Prior to receiving her doctorate, she also obtained a Master's Degree from George Washington University in Special Education with a focus on Diagnostic Prescriptive Teaching. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Florida Atlantic University.
Dr. Messina began her career as a teacher in a non-graded school that focused on developing individual strengths in each child. She then worked as a special education teacher. Since then, she has continued to teach students and professional therapists at the Washington School of Psychology and The Center for Psychoanalysis in Washington, D.C.
She is a founding member and of the Infant Observation program at the Washington School of Psychiatry. At this facility she has served as the Director of the Meyer Treatment Center and was the Interim Executive Director before becoming the Director of a Hospital Outpatient Program. She was a member of the Board of Director at this School as well.
She has also taught a number of post-graduate level courses for therapists who are in training. During her tenure, she received Teacher of the Year award several times based on student evaluations and recommendations at the Washington Center for Psychoanalysis.
Moreover, from her decades of experience in private practice, she has worked extensively with patients afflicted with a wide variety of mental health and behavioral symptoms or diagnoses, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, dissociative disorders, schizophrenia, sexual orientation and gender identity, couples counseling, PTSD, and other trauma-inducing behaviors/experiences.
She also provides a vast array of services including Psychological and Education Testing, Individual Psychotherapy, Play Therapy for Children, Psychoanalysis, Helping Adolescents develop a "College Edge." This includes creating an optimal course that can help them think about their futures with intentionality. Through the use of Career Counseling and Coaching skills, she assists Executives and leading Managers in various fields in their search for more satisfaction in their work by exploring second career options. She also works with Couples and Families and conducts Custody Evaluations.
Dr. Messina is currently a Fellow of the American Board of Psychoanalysis where she serves as a Certification Examiner.
