Mejia M.D, Ph.D. FRCPC, is recognized by Continental Who's Who as a Pinnacle Professional in the field of Forensic Psychiatry as it relates to Human Genetics and with a focus in externalizing behaviours and psychopathy. Dr. Mejia was Head of the Forensic Division, Department of Psychiatry, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, Western University (formerly known as University of Western Ontario) up to April, 2012.
In his current role, Dr. Mejia works in the areas of Mental Health and law through the lifespan. He is a consultant psychiatrist for the General Adult Ambulatory Mental Health Services of London Health Sciences Centre, for the concurrent disorder program of Regional Mental Health Care London, St. Joseph's Health Care; Sexual Behaviours Team, Children and Parents Resource Centre and the South-Western Ontario Telepsychiatric Hub. His expertise is also put to use of the London Court of Justice by providing assessment of mentally ill individuals who find themselves in trouble with the law.
His academic activities involve teaching students from the faculty of medicine and the psychiatry, pediatrics and family medicine specialties. He is also active in teaching professionals of related disciplines such as nursing and social work. He has some research related activities particularly focused in the elucidation of antisocial behaviors and its origins.
He is a member of the Canadian Psychiatry Association, Ontario Psychiatric Association, Canadian Academy of Psychiatry and Law, Canadian Medical Association, Ontario Psychiatry Association, International Association of Forensic Mental Health Services, American Association for the Treatment of Sex Abusers, Canadian Association of Physician Executives and the American Academy of Psychiatry Educators.
Dr. Mejia earned his Ph.D. in Human Genetics from McGill University, Certificate in Mental Health Law from Osgoode School of Law, subspecialty in Forensic Psychiatry from Queen's University, Psychiatry specialty and Medical Degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
He is author of various abstracts, articles and chapters in books and has a well earned reputation in his field of expertise particularly due to his passion for education and training.
