Dr. Johanan Rand of Healthy Aging Medical Centers featured on Joe DeFranco Podcast: Common Misconceptions about Estrogen and Testosterone
WEST ORANGE, N.J., March 18, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Testosterone Replacement Therapy, also known as TRT, has been slowly making its way into mainstream health. But it hasn't always been this way. For many years, TRT was seen in a negative light, with beliefs that it negatively affects one's health and may even lead to cancer. Dr. Johanan Rand, MD, Medical Director for Healthy Aging Medical Centers explains as a guest in Joe DeFranco's "The Industrial Strength" podcast titled "Causes of High Estrogen in Men: You've Been Lied to!" Episode#203, the misconceptions of Testosterone and Estrogen and how both hormones are beneficial and important for men and women as it relates to their overall wellness.
One common misconception that Dr. Rand and Joe DeFranco discussed was that TRT either causes cancer, prostate cancer, raises chances of heart attacks or may cause death. It is said to be a myth because often times people misinterpret medical studies. People need to distinguish the difference between "causation" vs "association". Dr. Rand stated that people are told Estrogen is bad for you, when in fact it's not the Estrogen levels that are affecting one's health. It may, in fact, be due to a myriad of reasons, including high inflammation, high body fat, poor lipid panels, or low testosterone. Estrogen may be associated with it, but it is not, in fact, the cause of poor health.
Estrogen is beneficial for men and women. It prevents osteoporosis, it helps with cognitive function and memory, it improves lipid panels, and may also prevent prostate cancer. Therefore, lowering Estrogen or even blocking it may cause serious harm and may even lower one's libido or cause erectile dysfunction.
They then went on to talk about the hidden benefits of taking testosterone. Testosterone Replacement Therapy helps with replenishing hormones, increasing testosterone while also naturally increasing Estrogen levels as well. Dr. Rand spoke of the importance of checking hormone levels before to ensure one replenishes their hormones the correct way.
The podcast helped to dispel many common misconceptions that people have regarding Estrogen, Testosterone, and Testosterone Therapy. Lastly, Dr. Rand explained that he has helped hundreds of patients due to these misconceptions and is doing what he can to spread the word.
