Dr. Jane C. Long to Receive THE MUSES 2017 Woman of the Year Award

LOS ANGELES, April 18, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- THE MUSES Woman of the Year honoree Dr. Jane C. Long, former Associate Director for Energy and Environment at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, will share her career insights and experiences on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the Jonathan Town Club.

Dr. Long's current work involves strategies for dealing with climate change, including reinvention of the energy system, geo-engineering and adaptation. While at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory she led programs in Earth System Science and Engineering, Nuclear System Science and Engineering, the National Atmospheric Release Advisory Center, and the Center for Accelerator Mass Spectrometry.

Dr. Long served as the Dean of Mackay School of Mines at the University of Nevada, Reno from 1997 to 2003, and was a scientist and department chair in energy and environment for Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Since retiring, Dr. Long has been serving as a senior contributing scientist for the Environmental Defense Fund. She has also been a Visiting Researcher at the University of California, Berkeley. 

The annual Woman of the Year event is the major fundraiser that allows THE MUSES to support youth education programs at the California Science Center. Proceeds help to fund the California State Science Fair and education programming for underserved children through the Hands-On Science Camp and Community Youth Programs of the California Science Center Foundation. Each year this event honors a woman or women who have made outstanding contributions in the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
