WASHINGTON, Nov. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ -- Doctor Isabel Gomez-Bassols, popular Spanish-language radio show host known as "The Angel of the Radio", came out of a successful surgery today following a diagnosis of kidney cancer, and announced that she expects return to the airwaves starting January 2016.

"Sometimes it's necessary to have more faith than normal, because we don't expect problems to arise. I'm the type of person who, when confronting problems, doesn't have the luxury of giving up," said the Spanish-language radio personality, who has helped transform the lives of thousands of Latinas and Latinos in the United States.
Dr. Isabel was diagnosed with a suspicious mass on her left kidney a few weeks ago. "This cancer is silent. It can hide inside of one's body without providing clues or warning signs, and we don't even realize it. My reaction was to tell my family, seek information and to make appointments with urologists and oncologists."
Yesterday, Dr. Isabel underwent an invasive operation in Boston. Doctors managed to preserve almost two thirds of her kidney. "When we face such situations, we must remain persistent, and have great faith. I have always lived life with courage, hope and passion ... and I will continue doing so," said the mother of four and grandmother of eight.
After her recovery, Dr. Isabel will return to her popular radio show via a new partnership with La Red Hispana (laredhispana.org), a service of Hispanic Communications Network (HCN) (hcnmedia.com). Her show works in parallel with La Red Hispana / HCN's mission to help and advise listeners of all ages in situations of homelessness, domestic violence, family relations, mental health, child safety, education and matters of the heart.
"We share Dr. Isabel's conviction in the power of positive thinking. HCN is supporting her personal needs during this time. We await alongside fans for Dr. Isabel's return to radio as a cancer free survivor," said Executive Vice President of HCN, Alison Rodden.
For over 18 years, Dr. Isabel has helped thousands of people suffering from depression, loneliness, illness and difficult situations. Prior to joining HCN, her show was carried by Radio Unica and Univision Radio. She currently writes her own weekly column in Miami's El Nuevo Herald (Miami Herald), responds to letters from the public via her website, doctoraisabel.net, and is on national TV every Wednesday via Telefutura News.
Dr. Isabel has received numerous awards: The Most Influential Women of Radio (2013, 2014, 2015), the National Hispana Leadership Institute Women Award 2013, George Moscone Award for the vocal support of gay rights / LA Pride, and the Community Catalyst Award of Hope for Children Organization, among others.
"Dr. Isabel is not only a psychologist, she is a reliable and credible voice unmatched in our community. Dr. Isabel has the ability to inspire millions of people to carry out positive changes every day. We are empowering our radio station affiliates to support their listeners, increase their audience, and make a significant difference in the community through her show," said Rodden.
