Dr. Evans of Southeast Pain Care Gives Students Look at New Technology
MORGANTON, N.C., April 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Martin Evans of Southeast Pain Care, an affiliate of American Anesthesiology, partnered with the Boy Scouts of America Piedmont Council to give 25 Burke County high school students hands-on experience with spinal cord stimulation therapy, one of the most advanced pain mitigation techniques available to physicians today.
The seminar was hosted by the Medical Explorers, a seminar program sponsored by the Boy Scouts is designed to expose high school students from Burke County with an interest in medicine to potential areas of specialization through the expertise of local doctors
Dr. Evans, a pain management and specialist with almost a decade of experience practicing interventional pain management, noted the necessity of keeping young people engaged in medical advancement.
"Medicine is progressing every day to make the impossible possible and to see this first hand truly fascinates these young minds," said Evans. "Spinal stimulation treats pain caused by conditions that aren't able to be cured. By engaging these eager students, we may inspire them to advance the practice and discover new treatments unheard of today."
Spinal stimulation treats chronic pain in patients with debilitating injuries by using electrical signals to dilute pain signals coming to the spinal cord. Following his demonstration, Evans was so impressed with how quickly the students were able to pick up on the more complicated aspects of the procedure that he gave them an opportunity to practice suturing on pig feet.
"I truly hope these students continue to pursue their passion for a future in medicine, be it in pain care or otherwise," continued Evans. "Providing our community and beyond with the most advanced medical expertise is of utmost importance."
