REDHILL, England, July 31, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. David Donaldson is a distinguished biographee of Marquis Who's Who. An accomplished chemical pathologist, Dr. Donaldson recently retired following nearly half a century of dedication to the practice of medicine, research and education. He is especially known for his knowledge regarding the biochemistry of medicine, which he has found to be a fascinating field. While serving as a consultant for various regional hospitals, Dr. Donaldson was tasked with analyzing blood and urine for proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, minerals [e.g. electrolytes such as sodium and potassium], vitamins and water, to which should be added drugs, hormones, steroids, calcium and phosphate; all these are the basis of laboratory diagnosis of many of the diseases of the body. Dr. Donaldson brings to attention the sometimes clinically missed tumors of the endocrine system, e.g. the phaeochromocytoma which originates in the medulla [central part] of the adrenal gland creating a rare diagnostic conundrum with feelings of fear, flight, fright and fight all caused by excessive adrenaline production.
Born in 1936, Dr. Donaldson is a native of Birmingham, England. After developing an initial interest in chemistry at King Edward's High School, he proceeded to explore biology and physics. Dr. Donaldson completed a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, through the University of Birmingham in 1959. Following a brief stint as a house physician and house surgeon, he accepted a position as a senior house officer in clinical pathology with Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Throughout the next few years, Dr. Donaldson served as a registrar in general medicine before launching a career as an educator in chemical pathology. Prior to his retirement, his most recent teaching position was as a lecturer in clinical biochemistry with the London South Bank University from 1997 to 2011. Between 1984 and 2006, Dr. Donaldson worked as a consultant in chemical pathology with the BUPA Gatwick Park Hospital.
A respected voice in the medical community, Dr. Donaldson is credited as the author of "Psychiatric Disorders with a Biochemical Basis," and as a co-author of "Diagnostic Function Tests in Chemical Pathology" and "Essential Diagnostic Tests in Biochemistry and Haematology", among many other publications. In addition to contributing numerous chapters to books and articles to professional journals, he also served as the deputy honorary editor and was a member of the editorial board of The Journal of the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health between 1997 and 2004. Dr. Donaldson has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the World.
In recognition of his contributions to the field of scientific research, Dr. Donaldson has been named a fellow of The Hunterian Society, The Medical Society of London, and the International College of Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine. He was most recently selected to receive the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and Distinguished Humanitarian Award in 2017. Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Donaldson is a member of The Guild of Freemen of the City of London, and the former chairman of the East Surrey Division of the BMA.
