RICHARDSON, Texas, May 4, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC) today announced that Dr. Dan McCoy has been named President of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX), effective July 1, 2016. Dr. McCoy succeeds Bert Marshall who will retire after 20 years with the company, during which he also served as president of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma prior to his current role. Dr. McCoy will report to Colleen Reitan, executive vice president of plan operations, HCSC.

Dr. McCoy joined BCBSTX in 2012. As divisional senior vice president of Texas market strategy and Texas plan chief medical officer, Dr. McCoy oversees the development and coordination of market strategy and business development across all regions of Texas. He has been instrumental in BCBSTX's growth and Latino strategies in addition to its efforts to lower the costs of care.
Prior to BCBSTX, Dr. McCoy was managing partner at Texas Dermatology Associates. He also served as medical director of the Melanoma Screening Clinic at Sammons Cancer Center and Baylor University Medical Center's Outpatient Cancer Center.
Dr. McCoy serves on the Dallas Regional Chamber Board, the Texas CASA Board and the TMA Board of Trustees. Prior to these leadership roles, he served on the Dallas County Medical Society Board and as past president of the Navarro College Foundation and the Texas Dermatological Society. He also gained significant experience in the public policy arena as chair of the Texas Medical Association (TMA) Council on Legislation and chair of the TMA Political Action Committee (TEXPAC).
Dr. McCoy graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in biology from Tarleton State University, and he earned an M.D. at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.
