Dr. Charles E. Cox Recently Recognized by America's Registry of Outstanding Professionals
FARMINGDALE, N.Y., Oct. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Charles E. Cox, of Tampa, Florida, has recently been recognized as a Top 10 member in America's Registry of Outstanding Professionals for his outstanding contributions and achievements in the field of Surgical Oncology.
Dr. Charles E. Cox was born in St. George, Utah. He is currently the Professor of Surgery and Director of the Breast Cancer Program at the University of South Florida. Dr. Cox earned his M.D. at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah. He served his internship and residency at Duke University, Durham, North Carolina. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery. His illustrious career began at the University of South Florida in 1983. Under his direction, the Comprehensive Breast Cancer Program was initiated at the University of South Florida in 1984. By 1986, the program was moved to the Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute at the University of South Florida. Dr. Cox's main area of practice is surgical oncology and treatment of breast cancer. The research and training in the technique for Lymphatic Mapping and Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in breast cancer patients was initiated by Dr. Cox and his colleagues. The Intra-Operative Touch Preparation Cytology for the evaluation of surgical margins was developed by him and his pathology colleagues. These techniques have resulted in a high success rate in breast conservation and lymph node sparing. Dr. Cox has been married to Bonnie Jean Cox for 36 years and has 4 children. He was an exchange student to Chile and speaks fluent Spanish. In addition to his role as an M.D. Dr. Cox is a missionary, bishop and clergyman of the LDS faith. He is also a poet, author and scholar; a world traveler and mentor to international programs for breast care in South America, Eastern Europe and China. His awards include being listed in the Who's Who in America and has been cited in the Best Doctors in America, Southeast Region. He was named as the Moffitt Cancer Center Physician of the Year in 1999. When he has some leisure time, he enjoys cooking, furniture making, home repairs, remodeling, hunting and fishing.
