Dr. Bronner's Supports Cleaning Products Disclosure Bill
Top-Selling Organic Soap Brand Joins Campaign to Support AB-708 in California Legislature
VISTA, Calif., Jan. 19, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Dr. Bronner's, family-owned maker of the top-selling natural brand of soap in North America, has joined the Environmental Working Group (EWG) and the Breast Cancer Fund along with thirty other public health, labor, environmental justice and women's health organizations, and responsible manufacturers, in supporting AB-708, the Cleaning Products Disclosure Bill, introduced in the California legislature by Assembly Member Reginald Jones-Sawyer (D-Los Angeles). The bill would require manufacturers of both consumer and industrial cleaning products to disclose ingredients, including fragrances, on product labels and on manufacturers' websites. This bill supports public health while allowing manufacturers to protect proprietary formulas by not requiring the amount of an ingredient to be disclosed. President of Dr. Bronner's, Michael Bronner, will attend a rally in support of this bill on Wed. Jan. 20, 2016 at the California State Capitol in Sacramento, California, 12pm - 1pm PDT.
"Without transparent ingredient disclosures on the labels of cosmetics, cleaners, and air fresheners, consumers do not have the tools they need to buy what's best for themselves and their families," said Michael Bronner, President of Dr. Bronner's. "Dr. Bronner's stands against any product labeling or lack thereof that leaves consumers in the dark about what they are buying. An educated consumer is a safe consumer."
Support of mandatory ingredients labeling for cleaning products is part of Dr. Bronner's broader commitment to transparency in product labeling and safeguarding consumers' right to know what is in the products we purchase. All Dr. Bronner's soap, personal care and cleaning products are labeled with full ingredients listing, as well as additional information regarding the ingredients' social and environmental attributes, such as Fair Trade sources, Organic certification, Leaping Bunny certification which ensures no animal testing, and whether the formula is Vegan.
Dr. Bronner's commitment to progressive business practices including promoting sustainable agriculture, corporate accountability, and consumers' right to know is part of the company's mission to put into practice the social and ecological principles that inform Dr. Bronner's philosophy printed on the company's iconic soap labels.
