"Blackford Middleton has pioneered the application of the world's health knowledge to the challenge of providing the best care," said Paul Magelli, chief executive officer of Apervita. "His expertise and passion are an ideal match with Apervita's mission to empower health enterprises and professionals to make their health knowledge computable and exchangeable, enabling its use on an industry scale. We are thrilled to have Dr. Middleton join our team as we enable health's front-runners to realize the profound benefits of this promise."
At Apervita, Dr. Middleton will be responsible for working with the ecosystem of leading health enterprises, including major health systems, payers and pharmaceutical companies, to shape an industry platform to enable these enterprises to readily apply health knowledge throughout their business. Dr. Middleton deeply understands the challenges of capturing, applying, and sharing computable, narrative, and other knowledge in health and will collaborate with health enterprises on an open, industry-scale solution.
"The health enterprises using Apervita are poised to make a direct impact on global health by applying the wealth of today's health knowledge," stated Dr. Middleton. "There are estimated to be hundreds of thousands of health algorithms in the world today, for example, that address major and pervasive health problems such as chronic disease, yet relatively few are connected to health data beyond research. Apervita has developed an innovative platform that enables enterprises to readily connect health knowledge with health data and deploy it broadly across its business as well as share it with others. Every health enterprise should be assessing the potential and benefit of this approach. I have joined Apervita as its mission, platform and team align with my long held belief in the potential for sharing and scaling the application of health knowledge for the benefit of lives everywhere."
