Dr. Ben Carson Finishes Second in Values Voter Summit Straw Poll
Values voters show strong support for Carson during annual summit in Washington, D.C.
MERRIFIELD, Va., Sept. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The 2016 Committee, a political action committee raising awareness and support for Dr. Ben Carson's campaign for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, congratulates Dr. Carson for his second-place finish in the 2015 Values Voter Summit straw poll on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015.
"The Values Voter Summit straw poll is an important indicator of a candidates' appeal to voters who support traditional values," said John Phillip Sousa IV, chairman of The 2016 Committee. "Dr. Carson's second-place finish shows how much faith values voters have in his commitment to upholding and protecting America's traditional values and healing our nation."
The 2015 Values Voter Summit straw poll surveyed members of Family Research Council Action, a non-profit education and lobbying organization dedicated to preserving and advancing the interests of family, faith and freedom in the political arena.
Dr. Carson finished in second place with 18 percent of the votes, earning more than three times as many votes as the frontrunner in the overall Republican primary race. He won the vice presidential straw poll for the second year in a row, earning 25 percent of the votes.
"The straw poll sends a message that values voters are looking to support candidates who not only understand the threats to our freedoms, but will boldly lead the way in standing up for and defending those freedoms," said Tony Perkins, president of FRC Action.
The straw poll identified the top three issues for values voters in the 2016 presidential race as protecting religious liberty, protecting life and protecting natural marriage.
