Dr. Anil Kumar, MD, Files His Candidacy For United States Congress 11th District In Michigan
BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich., April 15, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Democratic candidate, Dr. Anil Kumar, MD, officially filed paperwork April 11, 2014 in the race for Michigan's 11th Congressional District – where he has resided for over 30 years. In addition to qualifying, Dr. Kumar was the first candidate to file – and had 2,000 signatures, the maximum amount required. He also raised over $600,000 to date.
Dr. Kumar is a surgeon, and small business owner who has practiced medicine in Metropolitan Detroit for the past 30 years. Growing up in a hard-working middle class family taught Dr. Kumar the values he will bring to Washington. Dr. Kumar and his wife Majorie, also a physician, have been married for 27 years, and raised their two sons, Andrew and Nathan in Oakland County.
"I'm running for Congress because we need leaders with fresh ideas to get our state, and our economy, back on track," Kumar said. "People are frustrated because Washington isn't working. Now more than ever, we need to create good-paying jobs, make education affordable, protect Social Security and Medicare, and assure healthcare is accessible to everyone."
Dr. Kumar, a women's rights advocate, has met with families and seniors in cities across the 11th Congressional District in recent weeks, said his campaign will prioritize solutions not partisan politics. He added, "I am proud to be a supporter of women's rights, and a protector of Social Security and Medicare. I understand that Social Security and Medicare are promises to our seniors that must be kept and since I serve Medicare patients, I know they depend on it."
