WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis., Aug. 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Renaissance Learning, Inc. announced today that it has hired Dr. Alexa Posny as the company's Senior Vice President of State & Federal Programs. Dr. Posny will be responsible for building relationships with key state and federal education stakeholders to increase awareness of Renaissance Learning's technology-based assessment products.

Posny most recently served as the U.S. Department of Education's Assistant Secretary of the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, where she helped shape policy and management issues affecting special education and rehabilitative services as the principal special education adviser to Secretary Arne Duncan. Prior to that appointment, from 2007 to 2009, Dr. Posny served as Commissioner for the Kansas State Department of Education. Dr. Posny has also held positions as Director of the Office of Special Education Programs for the U.S. Department of Education, and numerous other positions at the Kansas Department of Education, including deputy commissioner of education and state director of special education. Earlier in her career, she taught in various district- and school-level teaching positions in Kansas, Illinois, and Wisconsin.
Dr. Posny has served on the board of directors for the Chief State School Officers and the National Council for Learning Disabilities and chaired the National Assessment Governing Board's Special Education Task Force. She holds a doctorate of educational administration degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
