DPC Education Center Selects Dr. K. Adu Ntoso for 2014 Willem J. Kolff Award
WASHINGTON, Feb. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The DPC Education Center will present the 2014 Willem J. Kolff Award to K. Adu Ntoso, M.D. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The award recognizes a health care professional within the dialysis community who best represents innovation and exceptional patient care. Nominations were encouraged from the extended dialysis community across the United States. Dr. Ntoso was chosen from over forty submissions and will personally accept the award at the DPC Education Center's Inaugural Gala on March 11, 2014 in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Ntoso is Chief, Section of Renal Disease and Hypertension at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. A dedicated and passionate practitioner, he is Board-certified in internal medicine and nephrology. He was nominated by a family member of a patient, who noted that he is very humble, personable and has an excellent bedside manner. "He is proactive in educating diverse populations about the impact of diabetes and the importance of kidney screenings," said his nominator. "Doctor Ntoso recognizes the importance of education in helping a loved one on dialysis and takes time to engage in conversations about kidney disease to ensure full understanding about the cause and effect of the disease." Dr. Ntoso has a reputation for personally transporting his patients to dialysis when they are stranded due to inclement weather; he consistently goes above and beyond the call of duty for the well-being of his patients.
Dr. Ntoso will be in attendance to receive the award from Dr. Jacob Kolff, the son of the late Dr. Willem Kolff, and said the following, "I am honored to accept DPC Education Center's Willem J. Kolff Award for 2014, especially in light of the award honoring the life-changing apparatus that Dr. Kolff invented and its immeasurable benefit to kidney patients."
The Inaugural Gala of the DPC Education Center will be held in Washington, D.C. at 101 Constitution Avenue's Rooftop Terrace. The evening promises to be educational, informative and celebratory, with the presentation of the Willem J. Kolff Award as well as a dialysis patient honoree award.
