HOUSTON, March 29, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Thurs., March 30, UAW-Ford will partner with the Houston Food Bank to help pack meals for local children from 8 a.m. to noon. The efforts will result in 3000 meals being assembled.
Following the aforementioned volunteer efforts, the Detroit-based organization will also donate sports equipment to area non-profit, The Forge Community Center, located at 3435 Dixie Drive in Houston, which will take place at 4p.m.
Items being donated include: board games, basketballs, volleyballs, kick balls, jump ropes and more. It will directly benefit children in Houston's Third Ward Community, where 90 percent of its impoverished youth are raised in single parent households.
"UAW-Ford is committed to helping uplift the community, whether it's in our hometown or neighborhoods far away," said Jimmy Settles, UAW-Ford Vice President. "We believe in lending a helping hand and working collectively to be a voice for the voiceless."
This initiative comes on the heels of UAW-Ford's community service efforts in San Diego, where it assisted in the fight against hunger. From renovating ballparks and schools to remodeling recreation centers and spearheading community cleanup days with youth; the UAW-Ford continues to invest in the communities in which its members live, work and play.
