Dow Jones Solar Power Project Praised by N.J. Senators Lautenberg and Menendez at Ceremony
System will be one of the nation's largest corporate solar power installations "Helping lead America to a new era of clean energy"
SOUTH BRUNSWICK, N.J., June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Calling it a demonstration that "a clean energy future is both possible and profitable" and "groundbreaking in every sense of the word," U.S. Senators Frank Lautenberg and Robert Menendez of New Jersey praised a Dow Jones & Company solar energy project at a groundbreaking ceremony in South Brunswick.
The solar power system at Dow Jones' 200-acre corporate campus will total 4.1 megawatts when it is completed early next year. The system will be one of the nation's largest corporate solar power installations and is expected to generate the equivalent of 15% of current electricity needs for the facility.
"I salute Dow Jones for its leadership. The company is demonstrating that a clean energy future is both possible and profitable," Senator Frank Lautenberg said in his comments to nearly 1,000 Dow Jones employees gathered for the groundbreaking ceremony.
"This will be one of the most outstanding examples of what America's clean energy future looks like, and it will be yet another innovation in the long innovative history of Dow Jones & Company," said Senator Robert Menendez. We need to embrace the potential of a clean energy future, and it is through bold investments like this that we are doing so."
Bob Martin, Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, said the solar project at Dow Jones represents New Jersey's clean energy potential. "Our dependence on fossil fuels hinders our state economically and hurts our environment," Commissioner Martin said. "Dow Jones' leadership in solar power is a significant step to a better energy future."
The solar energy system at Dow Jones is being installed by SunPower Corp. and partially financed through PSE&G's Solar Loan Program, through which PSE&G offers loans for solar power.
